Chevy Camaro Convertible Concept rolls into Detroit early

We'll save you the story on how this particular embargo was broken, but we have confirmation from GM that they won't hold it against us if we post this information and the accompanying high-resolution gallery, especially considering the car is already on the cover of this month's issue of Winding Road (albeit badly photoshopped into a strange pinkish hue) and Automotive News just let 'er rip, as well.
That said, the Camaro Convertible Concept you see here will officially be unveiled Saturday night at a star-studded occassion called the GM Style Event where the automaker's product will share a runway with A-, B- and C-list celebs. The Camaro drop-top will be wearing this lovely Hugger Orange pearl tri-coat paint job to the show and sport a pair of dark gray racing stripes as striking accessories. No doubt when the convertible arrives in dealerships shortly after the debut of the coupe there will be more colors available in its closet.
GM says the car will have a V8, four-wheel disc brakes, a proper standard trannsmission, and a four-wheel independant suspension. Those wheels appear to be well over the 20-inch diameter mark, so you can likely expect smaller rims when the car goes on sale officially in a couple of years. Nearly everything else is identical to the coupe version of the concept including the interior, and GM unfortunately didn't release any pics with the top so we can't judge the new silhouette, but you can check out our full gallery of 24 high-resolution images by clicking here and tell us what you think in the comments.

Gotta do something about the interior....those gages on the floor have got to go. Other than that, good going lets see how it makes it into final production before we make final judgment.

This new camaro is really cool. But it surprises me the number of people who don't appreciate the new design.
The silver concept is sweet, and I'm dying to see what a black one will look like on the street!
Change the steering wheel, and make the bowtie emblems a wee bit smaller. Then we're talkin!

APk,
you must no nothing of classic camaros, as the gauges on the floor are known as the four pack, and are direct cues from a '69 camaro, the main influence for this car...they should stay

If only the interior quality of this concept could make it into production. The Corvette is an example of a great design badly in need of an interior. GM really needs to do this car right. They have the exterior design spot on; please don't ruin it with another cheap GM interior.

I'm a Blue Oval guy, not a Bow-tie guy, but this is one sweet car. It is great to see an American manufacturer demonstrate (at least in concept) that they can do great design and quality in one unique package.

....hhmmmm, I think I'm done with retro.
The gauges on the floor are dumb, i dont care what they were inspired by or if they were called "4pack" in the 60s , but having to look that far down while driving is just stupid....

This car looks like it was designed by Pixar. What's with the goofy expression on the front? Putting that aside, the design looks more dated than retro and will be moreso if GM still has the ability to release it in a couple years. And of course GM doesn't mind if this information is posted - anything to divert attention away from the reality of their situation.

NO DOUBT IT IS GREAT-LOOKING!!
------------------------------------------
BUT -- Without the roof, you could park it between a Mustang and the new Dodge Challenger, and see an AWFUL lot of similarity to one or the other.

Where does the CD disk go in? No navigation? The gauges look confusing to me. I guess we'll have to see one in person and drive it before we pass final judgment.

It is a car not a rolling entertainment center. Things like that are the reason there are so many wrecks. Memorize your route before you depart.

who needs a cd player when u have the awesome sound of the lsx v8? And i'd take a cool retro design over a bland "modern" one anyday. Cars like these get me excited about cars.

Well, it looks better than a Z or an RX-8--and FAR nicer than the lame Photoshop images. Better than I expected.
